St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Burdwan

St. Xavier's College Burdwan is indeed a great gift of St. Xavier's School, to the people of Burdwan and neighboring districts when it celebrated its golden jubilee. The Jesuits of Calcutta Jesuit Province will ever be indebted to the school, for the precious gift of this college.

I join them in placing on record my sincere thanks to you all — students, staff, parents, guardians, benefactors and our well-wishers — for making this golden dream a reality. A journey has begun with lots of hope, aspirations and expectations.

Though the college has had a very humble beginning, the present infrastructure development with the academic and administrative buildings in a campus of its own and the orderliness in both the academic and disciplinary aspects of the college may draw more students to pursue their studies in this institution.

From the very beginning we are not fanatical about increasing the numerical strength of the college but committed to form those who come here to not only get themselves transformed but also, in turn, become agents of transformation of the larger society.

What makes a Jesuit institution uniquely different from other institutions is not only its academic excellence but also the total and complete formation of each individual as "persons for and with others". It prepares students for responsible citizenship, who through social involvement try to create a just society and have concern for the poor and the marginalized.

May our commitment to this noble mission of ours become our only identity as a Jesuit institution and may we be proud of this noble cause, this noble mission, now and always.
