The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of St. Xavier's College, Burdwan is dedicated to developing the personality and character of students through community service and social work.

NSS is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The motto of NSS is "Not Me But You" — reflecting the essence of democratic living and upholding the need for selfless service.

OBJECTIVES

Understand the community in which students work
Understand themselves in relation to their community

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at St. Xavier’s College, Burdwan is an integral part of the institution’s commitment to holistic education and social responsibility. Sponsored by the Government of India and managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, NSS was launched in 1969—the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi—with the vision of fostering service-oriented citizens.
