About the Department

"I have always wanted to know what it is like to live on earth." - Yi-Fu Tuan

St. Xavier's College, Burdwan, established its Department of Geography at the inception of the college in 2014 with the introduction of the Bachelor's in Geography as a discipline at the undergraduate level. Since then it has maintained a tradition of high academic and co-curricular excellence. The department rightly boasts to house well spacious and well equipped classrooms and laboratories required for U.G. level. Students feel comfortable while working in the laboratories as they get sufficient equipment and instruments for their works. Students of this department hold prestigious ranks in under-graduate examination under the affiliated University.

The Department of Geography has an active Geographical Society – "Xaverian Society for Human Sustainability" formed upon the Sustainable development Goals (SDG's) which organizes lectures by distinguished academicians and other extra and co-curricular activities. The Society also facilitates participation of students in various activities across various colleges of the University.
