SECTION 2(f) AND 12(B) — UGC RECOGNITION

St. Xavier's College, Burdwan is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) and Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.

WHAT IS SECTION 2(f)?

Section 2(f) of the UGC Act defines a "University" and provides for the recognition of institutions of higher education. Colleges recognized under Section 2(f) are eligible to receive UGC grants and are recognized as legitimate higher education institutions.

WHAT IS SECTION 12(B)?

Section 12(B) of the UGC Act provides for the maintenance grants to colleges. Colleges recognized under Section 12(B) are eligible to receive central government grants through UGC.

St. Xavier's College, Burdwan has been granted:

  • UGC Recognition under Section 2(f): Recognized as a legitimate higher education institution

  • UGC Recognition under Section 12(B): Eligible for UGC grants

  • UGC Autonomous Status: Granted in 2026, enabling academic independence
