About the Department

The Department of English, St. Xavier’s College, Burdwan, offers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses and is committed to building young learners who are positive-minded, creative, confident, and empathetic towards the ever-changing dynamics of the present century. With a focus on language, literature, and critical thinking, we aim to cultivate a community of passionate learners who will explore the depths of expression and communication. Our faculty remain dedicated to nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and a deep understanding of literature. The department fosters a dynamic and inclusive educational environment that prepares students for diverse careers in the ever-evolving world of language, literature, and culture. The department continuously strives to create a multidisciplinary ambiance by engaging in collaborations with various educational institutions, to expand the scope for academic exposure of students. It has been our continuous endeavour to impress upon students that English Literature is not limited within the framework of academic curriculum and finite walls of classrooms, but an experience surpassing such restrictions.
