TRAILS THROUGH WONDERLAND

The 2nd year students of the Department of English, who have Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in their syllabus, made various posters, paintings and props to recreate the imaginary and colorful world of Alice. Arrangements were made to replicate the Mad Tea party, one of the most important scenes of Alice’s journey in the wonderland.

PUPPET WORKSHOP

The Drama and Fine Arts Club, under the aegis of the Department of English conducted a Puppet workshop, which was also the inaugural event of the club, coordinated by Mr. Partha Pratim Paul, director of Burdwan the Puppeteers. The participants had hands on experience in creating shadow puppets and socks puppets.

The inaugural lectures of the orientation programme of the M.A. students were delivered by Professor Subhajit Sengupta, the Department of English and Cultural Studies, the University of Burdwan, and Professor Angshuman Kar, the Department of English and Cultural Studies, the University of Burdwan, respectively. They enlightened the students on the methodology to be followed while undertaking PG studies – writing answers from a critical perspective with a touch of ingenuity.

With the introduction of the new CBCS system in the University of Burdwan as well as significant changes that have been made in the syllabus of the Undergraduate course, students are more often than not finding it difficult to do a comprehensive study of the prescribed texts being unsure as to how to approach a given text and its themes. Dr. Mukhopadhyay not only spoke about it but also did an in-depth scrutiny of what is referred to as ‘world literature’ by analysing the basic concepts that the students of English Literature have, regarding ‘world literature’ as well as eliminating the misconceptions or the false notions they had about the same.
