Introduction
The Bharat Scouts & Guides is associated with the world scouting movement started by a British Army officer Lord Baden Powell in 1907 with an aim to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. Scouting/Guiding addresses itself to young people; it is a youth Movement, where the role of adults consists of assisting young people in achieving the objectives of Scouting/Guiding. The Movement is open to all without distinction of origin, race, class or creed.
The purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international communities. Scouting develops self-knowledge and the need to explore, to discover, to want to know. Scouts discovers the world beyond the class room, tapping the skills of others to learn and to become individuals with all round development. It helps young persons acquire plenty of life skills and enables them to be useful citizens.
Scouting is all about building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure education and fun to empower the youth! Scouts learn how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions so that they are prepared for their adult life as independent persons.
